Summer 2024 is here 🌴🌴 Lester Sanchez's "Magazine"
It was early 2022 I believe when I first heard the track. It was a rough draft of course, no Jarri on the intro yet, just a hook and the first verse. Even at 25% of what it would eventually be, I could hear what Les and Unk was working towards, and I liked it. It was one of those we knew we had to put a little extra oomph behind: we had to get things in order; plan this one out right... we was about to make some things shake that coming summer. Well, spoiler alert, nothing shook.
The track always came up whenever we started plotting, but it never felt like the right time to release it, like we wouldn't be able to give it the push it deserved. At this point we had already had 2, of what we considered, pretty successful releases with "Its OK" and "Dear Mary Jane" so we had an idea of what we wanted to do at a minimum as far as marketing and promotion. But as we started edging closer to the end of Spring 2024, we still weren't exactly where we wanted to be.
I thought I would be signing artists and have a budget to push projects like Magazine by now; planned on having a new camera and some new gear; was hoping to have built up certain relationships; and I can go on but you know how it goes for an indie label or indie artist, a small business owner or entrepreneur, a dream chaser or just as a liver of life. Its the "Go" in Learn As You Go that I've really been trying to focus on lately, taking action and learning through doing versus trying to learn it all / plan it all out and then do. So when Lester told me he was getting ready to plan out his summer, I said "baby come vibe with me."
Although it would be nice market it and promote it the way we originally wanted, we didn't think all that was still as necessary. By this time the song was done, 2nd verse added, adlibs, mixed, mastered, and Jarri talkin' XXL. I'm with the belief that the better the product, the less you will have to do to market and promote. Not to mention, we had listened to it ourselves 100s of times, all spring, winter, and fall; no way we could let another summer go by with this tucked away for just our own pleasure.

"And all you had to do was drop it once for me..." I'm actually listening to the track now as I type this in my backyard. Adding it to a few of my Spotify Playlists - of which also include some other Lester Sanchez tracks.
